The upcoming Sam Mendes film about the Beatles boasts its full cast announcement which makes way for one of the most ambitious film projects of its time. Mendes announced that his upcoming four films under his direction will feature John Lennon portrayed by Harris Dickinson partnered with Paul McCartney through Paul Mescal yet Ringo Starr performed by Barry Keoghan and George Harrison taken on by Joseph Quinn.
A Surprise Reveal at CinemaCon
During CinemaCon in Las Vegas, the audience experienced a suspenseful, unexpected appearance when Sam Mendes joined him and his “Fab Four.” He stated at CinemaCon that all four linked biopics about different Beatles artists will premiere in April 2028.
“We’re not just making one film about the Beatles – we’re making four,” Mendes declared. “Perhaps this is a chance to understand them a little more deeply.”
In his analysis, the director declared the Beatles possessed “the most significant band of all time” status because of their cultural effects and added that their complete story exceeded the single film length. He spent numerous years searching for an appropriate approach until he decided individual member stories presented independently yet merging into a holistic narrative best achieved their important legacy.
Full Support from the Beatles’ Inner Circle
Mendes received complete authorization for his project from both Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with official approval from John Lennon and George Harrison’s family members. For the first time in film history, the Beatles’ life stories and musical works received official and complete script rights permission through Apple Corps and rights holder authorization. At CinemaCon, the main actors honored the band by reading lyrics from Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band during their stage appearance.
“It’s wonderful to be here, it’s certainly a thrill, you’re such a lovely audience, we’d like to take you home with us.”
Casting Rumors Finally Confirmed
While the official cast announcement was thrilling, some details had been hinted at before. Last year, legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott accidentally confirmed that Paul Mescal, who stars in Gladiator II, would be playing one of the Beatles. Mescal later responded diplomatically, saying,
“It would be a dream come true.”
Ringo Starr had also previously hinted at Barry Keoghan’s involvement, joking that the Saltburn star was
“taking drum lessons, and I hope not too many.”
A Legacy Worth Exploring
The Beatles established such vast influence on music and cultural developments that it remains unmatched. When the band was initially established in 1960, they transformed the music business until their official breakup in 1970. Through their progression, they produced both classic albums and chart-topping songs as well as five hit movies, including A Hard Day’s Night from 1964 and Let It Be in 1970.
Mendes brings fans an extensive depiction of this legendary story through his planned four-film biographical investigation, which surpasses all previous Beatles-focused biopics and documentaries.
