“Malcolm in the Middle” Revival Brings Back Fan Favorites – With One Major Change

A Disney+ inspired revival of Malcolm in the Middle will reintroduce familiar actors to the show yet maintains a selective cast where some original team members remain absent. Chris Masterson and Justin Berfield return to play Francis and Reese in the revival of Malcolm in the Middle while the series also features Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek. Viewers will get to experience Hal and Lois once more in charge of their unpredictable family home. In the updated version Kiana Madeira (Fear Street) portrays Malcolm’s love interest Tristan who joins the plot as a new character.
The Big Casting Shake-Up
The revival introduces a new actor who plays Dewey instead of maintaining the original casting. The original series star Erik Per Sullivan did not resume his role as the adorable brother. The event will be played by Caleb Ellsworth-Clark who previously appeared in Fargo and The Expanse.
Sullivan left acting behind his departure from the show in 2006 before it finished airing in 2006. The public saw him last in the 2010 feature film Twelve before he disappeared from view and avoided attending former co-star events.
New Faces in the Family
The upcoming revival brings new personalities who enhance the chaotic atmosphere of the Wilkerson residence. Anthony Timpano (who appears in Riverdale and Nancy Drew) will portray Jamie the youngest brother of Malcolm in the revival. The original audience remembers how the show added Jamie during Season 4. Vaughan Murrae (Before I Change My Mind) will portray Kelly as the new character who was previewed during the series finale.
Kelly represents the last of Hal and Lois’ children at age 16 in addition to her independent nature and scholarly excellence and seemingly composed personality. The role of Leah will be played by Keeley Karsten who also appeared in The Fabelmans and Hunters. According to reports she received her intelligence along with wit and impulsiveness from her father yet shows greater emotional depth than his traits.
Plot and Production Details
The upcoming revival production will start filming during the next weeks at Vancouver studios. The official description introduces Malcolm alongside his child who will face family complications because Hal and Lois want them to attend their 40th anniversary party. As the writer and executive producer Linwood Boomer uses his original creator status to produce the revivals with authentic continuity to the original series.
Bryan Cranston together with Tracy Katsky and Gail Berman along with New Regency and 20th Television executives will serve as producers for the limited series. All four episodes of the series will be directed by Ken Kwapis. Via its familiar faces and fresh cast members Malcolm in the Middle embraces relentless family disorder to present an upcoming series that attracts both returning audience members and first-time viewers.
