Producer and writer Laurie Jacobson informed the world of North’s passing through a moving Facebook post, which she published on April 6. According to Jacobson, the beloved JAY NORTH quietly left this world at his home during the noon EST time following his long-term cancer struggle.
North’s work partner Jeanne Russell delivered the emotionally charged news to him after the cancer took his life. According to Jacobson, the struggles of Hollywood had been tough on Jay, but he never allowed obstacles to shape his identity.
“He had a heart as big as a mountain,” she wrote. “He loved his friends deeply and never ended a call without saying, ‘I love you with all my heart.’”
From Mischief to Stardom
Popular culture recognized Jay North when he appeared as Dennis Mitchell on TV to become the slingshot-using, freckle-nosed neighbor to Mr. Wilson in 1959. Through his appearances in the four-year Dennis the Menace CBS sitcom, he acquired fame as a domestic household face and became one of television’s first popular child performers.
The transition after ending his Dennis role brought North into the movie world through Zebra in the Kitchen and Maya before he returned to reprise his role in the Maya television series. After his initial remarkable success, North dedicated his continued efforts to productive work in the entertainment industry despite failing to reach the same level of stardom.

Through his work as a voice actor, Jay North contributed to various popular animated shows in addition to his famous television career. The Saturday morning television audience heard North in four classic cartoon shows, which included Arabian Knights, Here Comes the Grump, The Pebbles and Bamm-Bamm Show, and The Flintstones Comedy Hour.
