Voletta Wallace Passes Away at 78—Who Will Protect Biggie’s Legacy Now?

At 78 years old Voletta Wallace died as the mother of rapper The Notorious B.I.G. Monroe County Coroner Thomas Yanac revealed to The Associated Press that Wallace died at her Stroudsburg Pennsylvania home on February 21 according to his official confirmation.
Cause of Death Revealed
The reports indicate that Voletta Wallace died from natural causes after being under hospice care for one year. Her departure signifies the loss of someone who raised her son Biggie along with becoming his guardian to maintain his historical legacy following his fatal passing.
The rap artist The Notorious B.I.G. also known as Christopher Wallace passed away through gunfire in Los Angeles in 1997 at age 24. His life left behind Faith Evans who is a musician and actress together with their children Christopher Jordan Wallace and T’yanna Dream Wallace.
A Mother’s Influence on Hip-Hop
Through her efforts Voletta Wallace successfully maintained the hip-hop influence her son had established. Biggie used a short clip of his mother Voletta Wallace in his Juicy music video to show her continuous backing of his career. She even inspired the lyrics:
“She loves to show me off of course / Smiles every time my face is up in The Source.”
Keeping His Legacy Alive
Following the premature death of her son Wallace started the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation which gives children educational opportunities through a nonprofit organization. During 2003 Voletta Wallace gathered together the mothers of seven other musicians who died tragically for the “B.I.G. Night Out” benefit ceremony and celebration.
She remembered Aaliyah as well as Tupac Shakur alongside Big L and Big Pun Lisa, “Left Eye” Lopes, and Jam Master Jay and Freaky Tah. Biggie’s mother Voletta Wallace departed from this world after fighting cancer starting this year.
