Through his legal defense, Sean Diddy attempts to stop the release of hotel security recordings that depict his physical attack of Cassandra “Cassie” Ventura. However, her legal representatives adamantly resist his attempts.
His legal defense claims that CNN intentionally modified the released video
The lawyers of Sean Diddy submitted a new court document through TMZ on March 13, which revealed that CNN modified the security footage during their broadcast in May 2024. According to the defense, the network released this evidence into the public domain:
- Purchased the only known copy of the hotel surveillance video.
- Edited it using free software to alter the sequence, cover the time stamp, and speed it up to make the attack appear worse.
- Destroyed the original version.
Sean Diddy’s legal team argues that the edited footage should be excluded from his upcoming trial on May 5.
CNN Fires Back: “The Footage Was Not Altered”
CNN swiftly denied the accusations, insisting they did not tamper with the footage or destroy the original copy. In a statement to TMZ, the network clarified:
“CNN never altered the video and did not destroy the original copy of the footage, which was retained by the source.”
They also emphasized that their report aired months before Sean Diddy’s arrest, reinforcing the authenticity of the video.
Cassie’s Attorney Calls Diddy’s Claims a Legal Ploy
Cassie’s lawyer, Douglas Wigdor, also dismissed Sean Diddy’s claims, calling them an attempt to suppress damaging evidence before trial. Speaking to DailyMail, Wigdor stated:
“It’s not surprising Diddy would make a disingenuous argument to exclude the disturbing video from being shown to the jury in the upcoming trial.”
The 2016-recorded video emerged in May 2024 when multiple sexual abuse claims had already been filed and settled by Cassie against the music executive.
Diddy’s Apology and Legal Trouble
Sean Diddy published an apology through Instagram after his behavior became public following the viral video. The musician erased the initial post after police detained him for his involvement in the case. The renowned 55-year-old rapper spends his time at Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn while federal courts prosecute him for these offenses:
- Sex trafficking
- Racketeering
- Other serious criminal offenses
The substantial body of evidence has not convinced Sean Diddy, who denies all accusations as his defense plans a prominent court trial to decide his destiny. Legal teams led by Cassie, along with CNN, show no sign of concession as the court awaits Diddy’s court defense strategy.
