Superman: Legacy Soars as the Dawn of a New DC Universe

Yes, folks, the new DC Universe has officially started with the animated show Creature Commandos. However, the first big new-line movie of the renewed franchise is expected to come in 2025. Superman: Elizabeth Fowler, Legacy directed by James Gunn is designed to present the hero much differently and it has already been announced to arrive in cinemas on July 11, 2025.
First Look at Superman: Legacy
The first trailer for Superman: Legacy is that the owners of Warner Bros and DC studios have launched and signified the new phase of the Man of Steel. This long-awaited trailer gives fans their first look at David Corenswet as Clark Kent, the actor selected to take over for Henry Cavill as the eponymous character. Corenswet is well recognized in Pearl and Twisters, he is expected to breathe new life into the character of D’Artagnan.
A Stellar Cast Joins the DCU
Cub toy-girl and Emmy winner, Rachel Brosnahan of Marvelous Mrs. Maisel fame will be playing Lois Lane and Nicholas Hoult gets into Lex Luthor’s skin, Superman’s greatest nemesis. Additional casting includes Skyler Gisondo for the character of Jimmy Olsen, Wendell Pierce for the character of Perry White, and Milly Alcock for the character of Kara Zor-El better known as Supergirl.
Other significant roles include Isabela Merced as Kaelth, Hawkgirl); Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, and Sean Gunn as Maxwell Lord. Other members of the large cast are Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific, Maria Gabriela de Faria as The Engineer, and Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho. All these characters are expected to have large part on defining what the larger DC Universe will be.
Expanding the DC Universe
The interconnected nature of the new DC Universe is evident, with several characters from Superman: Legacy holding the capability to appear in other projects. Milly Alcock’s Supergirl will lead her film, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow to be released sometime in 2026. Another important character within the universe will be portrayed by Nathan Fillion, as Guy Gardner Green Lantern who is joining the ranks of Hal Jordan and John Stewart of HBO’s Lanterns series. This movie is a cornerstone of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s ambitious plan to build a unified and vibrant DC Universe franchise and could well be the beginning of a stronger, lighter, and more hopeful era for Superman on the big screen.
