From TV Heartthrob to Miniseries Legend
In the early 1960s, Richard Chamberlain achieved fame by portraying the kindhearted Dr. Kildare in the popular NBC show that bore his character’s name. The ten-year broadcast period of the show from 1961 to 1966 made him a star and delivered his initial Golden Globe award in 1963. Richard Chamberlain developed an active film career as well as his entertainment presence on television. Richard Chamberlain was born in Los Angeles, where he spent his childhood in Beverly Hills before graduating from Pomona College. His service in the U.S. Army brought him to Korea, where he stayed for 16 months until achieving sergeant rank. The deceased leaves behind his long-term male partner, Martin Rabbett.
“Our beloved Richard is with the angels now,” Rabbett said in a statement. “How blessed were we to have known such an amazing and loving soul.”
