Ralph Fiennes Steps Into Dark Role as President Snow in New Hunger Games Prequel

Acclaimed actor Ralph Fiennes will be taking on the role of the infamous Coriolanus Snow in The Hunger Games prequels. Replacing the late Donald Sutherland. Ralph Fiennes takes on the role of the opposition in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The Hunger Games prequel film Sunrise on the Reaping will be helmed by Francis Lawrence.
Several Prominent Actors and Future Stars Are Set To Appear in The Hunger Games Sequel
He joins the cast headlined by Joseph Zada, Whitney Peak, Mckenna Grace, Jesse Plemons, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Maya Hawke, Lili Taylor and Ben Wang. The movie is based on Suzanne Collins’ upcoming novel and picks up where Beechwood left off, starring Tom Blyth and Rachel Zegler.
Paying Tribute to the Past, Making Something New.
Nina Jacobson said that casting Ralph Fiennes was a very special and important decision for the film.
“We wanted to honor Donald Sutherland by having one of this generation’s greatest actors play President Snow 24 years before Katniss Everdeen entered the arena,” she said. “Working with Ralph has been on my bucket list since he traumatized me in Schindler’s List. It’s genuinely a thrill to welcome him to the Hunger Games.”
A Glimpse Into the 50th Hunger Games
Scheduled to hit theatres on November 20, 2026, Sunrise on the Reaping will transport viewers back in time to the Year of the Quell, when the largest battle royale in the history of Panem was held. This harrowing entry into Panem’s history should provide insight into how Snow seized power and transformed the nation into the terrifying society it became.
Francis Lawrence is taking on directorial duties once again, drawing from a screenplay by Billy Ray. Nina Jacobson and Brad Simpson lead the project as producers, representing Color Force. Lionsgate has Meredith Wieck and Scott O’Brien as project managers, and Phil Strina handled the negotiations on behalf of the studio.
Ralph Fiennes Continues Career Momentum
A three-time Oscar nominee, Ralph Fiennes has been recognized yet again by the Academy for his leading performance in Conclave. He will soon be seen in films such as The Choral under Nicholas Hytner’s direction and Danny Boyle’s 28 Days Later.
