Despite starring in Doctor Who and The Devil’s Hour the actor Peter Capaldi must relive the experiences of the 1970s when he released his new album. The actor who currently ages 65 returns to music and makes his new album Sweet Illusions available through the indie label Last Night From Glasgow.
From Punk to Pop: A Full Circle Moment
Throughout his time at Glasgow School of Art, Peter Capaldi led The Dreamboys which later evolved into the punk band with future talk show host Craig Ferguson.
“Like a lot of kids in the ‘70s, I was in a band,” he recalls. “Glasgow was a great city for music, but we were never that successful.”
The actor then shifted his focus to performing roles in The Thick of It Doctor Who and The Suicide Squad. However, his love for music never faded.
A Push from the Blow Monkeys’ Dr Robert

“He’s the guy at the party with the guitar,” Capaldi says. “He encouraged me to play again, then to start writing songs.”
St Christopher became Peter Capaldi’s inaugural album when it was released in 2021 thus clearing the path for Sweet Illusions.
Glasgow’s Indie Label Takes the Lead
The new record by Peter Capaldi receives support from Last Night From Glasgow (LNFG), an independent record label established in 2016 by Ian Smith. The organization exists as a non-profit structure that provides equal treatment to its musical artists.
“The music industry doesn’t care about musicians, just profit,” says Smith. “We wanted to change that.”
LNFG also reissues older albums under Past Night From Glasgow, with its first release being The Bluebells’ Sisters (1984). At LNFG’s Hidden Lane shop in Glasgow, Peter Capaldi’s music plays regularly.
“People recognize the voice but can’t place it,” Smith reveals. “Someone guessed Bob Dylan!”The album’s cover shows Capaldi at a London bus stop, lost in thought about home. “After 40 years, it feels right that I’m back to music in Glasgow,” he says.
Peter Capaldi’s return to music creates pleasant astonishment because it flows organically from his artistic progression. The actor who continues his acting career shows an increased commitment to music through his most recent album Sweet Illusions. The musician Peter Capaldi keeps expanding his fan following and shows no signs of slowing down his musical activities.
