The new Academy Award-winning actress Mikey Madison finally appeared on Saturday Night Live during its March 29, 2025, broadcast. Her increasing popularity did not prevent the entire episode from becoming forgettable because most of the sketches settled into an unmemorable background.
Mikey Madison: The opening held great promise before everything fell short
The broadcast began with an altered Signal group chat segment that used a White House corruption story within a conversation of high school rumors. Although the show idea was appropriate for the times, it fell short of delivering engagement to its viewers because of its clumsy delivery. The monologue presented by Mikey Madison included details about her current accomplishments and personal characteristics alongside information about her twin brother. The opening presentation emerged as appealing but failed to reach the level of brilliance that represents a memorable Saturday Night Live hosting appearance.
Sketches That Struggled to Shine
The episode saw regular performer Marcello Hernández appear in three main sketches consisting of Acting Teacher 2, Jury Duty, and Spring Break. After the night, the exaggerated delivery methods of his performance grew tired.
Mikey Madison joined multiple sketches during the show but never achieved the status of being the main attraction despite winning the Best Actress award. Madison lost her uniqueness in each role she portrayed during the show as she immersed herself in fake characters from various sketches, and even when sharing scenes with Yang’s bizarre midwife cameo. The show reached a peak when a sketch presented a mobster who wanted to pursue stand-up comedy however, it still failed to win audiences over.
Musical Guest Morgan Wallen Returns
Morgan Wallen resumed his spot on Saturday Night Live by performing his songs I’m the Problem and Just in Case. Viewers exhibit different reactions to his performances because his past controversies continue to haunt him. The best segments of Saturday Night Live’s episode were brought by Weekend Update, which addressed Signalgate along with other contemporary news events through the duo of Colin Jost and Michael Che. Devon Walker delivered outstanding TikTok satire while Ashley Padilla took an intriguing approach to Joann Fabrics during the episode.
Mikey Madison generated significant excitement about her hosting stint, but her SNL performance did not achieve the same popularity as her recent movie work. She provided occasional highlights, but the episode fell short of delivering compelling writing or memorable comedic sketches that would create lasting memories for viewers. Audiences anticipate an enhanced ending for this season since SNL has just two broadcast dates remaining.
