WME has let go of actor-director-producer Justin Baldoni, where the company dumped him on Saturday. The move comes weeks after a sexual harassment and retaliation complaint from his ‘It Ends With Us ‘co-star and fellow producer Blake Lively. Nevertheless, Lively continues to be a client of WME.
Details of the Complaint
It Ends With Us star Blake Lively has contributed to the lawsuit filed with the California Civil Rights Department: The writer has accused Justin Baldoni, his Wayfarer Studios, and other companies related to the film of fostering a toxic atmosphere. The allegations, some of which include the sharing of provocative images and messages, engaging in improper conversations, and making unwanted physical contacts. Some of the allegations are Badlone’s personal matters of Lively’s concern, such as her weight and expanding the script beyond the script.
It also alleges that Justin Baldoni and others tried to tarnish Lively’s image, the actions of which this lawsuit claims were part of the campaign. What the accusations claim are things that happened in the set and on Lively and her employees.
Justin Baldoni’s Response and Next Steps
Justin Baldoni has discredited all the allegations, mentioning them as phony and aimed at tarnishing his image through his lawyer. As much as he denies it, the accusations have brought improvements from WME, hence proving how serious the allegations are.
Implications for the Film
There will be no future for It Ends With Us, a film addressed to young people that tells a story about domestic violence. Not surprisingly, the claims created doubts about the project being finished and received in a proper manner since Justin Baldoni was not only the producer and director of the film but also the actor opposite Lively.
WME hasn’t issued any statement concerning this or their decision to part ways with Baldoni, who has also been accused of misconduct. Things appear to be getting worse for both parties, and thus the consequences of this discord will be far-reaching, well into the industry.
