Hollywood Icon Gene Hackman and Wife Found Dead Under Mysterious Circumstances

Oscar-winning actor Gene Hackman, his wife Betsy Arakawa, and their dog were found dead in their Santa Fe, New Mexico, residence on Wednesday. The Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the deaths, stating:
“We can confirm that both Gene Hackman and his wife were found deceased Wednesday afternoon at their residence on Sunset Trail. This is an active investigation—however, at this time, we do not believe foul play was a factor.”
Gene Hackman was 95, and Arakawa, a classical pianist, was 63.
A Legendary Career Spanning Six Decades
Gene Hackman was one of Hollywood’s most celebrated actors, winning two Academy Awards—Best Actor for The French Connection (1971) and Best Supporting Actor for Unforgiven (1992). He also earned Oscar nominations for Bonnie and Clyde (1967), I Never Sang for My Father (1970), and Mississippi Burning (1988). With over 100 roles to his name, Hackman’s career included playing the iconic Lex Luthor in the Superman films of the 1970s and 1980s, as well as starring in The Conversation, Runaway Jury, and The Royal Tenenbaums.
Authorities Confirm Deaths Amid Ongoing Investigation
According to the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the home on February 26 at approximately 1:45 p.m., where Hackman, Arakawa, and their dog were found deceased. Authorities have not disclosed the cause of death, but initial reports suggest no foul play was involved.
