The Foo Fighters have announced the departure of drummer Josh Freese after only a short time together. The 52-year-old drummer announced on Instagram Friday that he was let go from the band with little explanation.
āIn my 40 years of drumming professionally, Iāve never been let go from a band,ā Freese shared. āSo while Iām not angryājust a bit shocked and disappointed.ā
No Reason, No ReplacementāYet
The Foo Fighters told Freese on Monday that they were switching things up and moving on from having him as their drummer. Freese is reported to have been told that theyāre simply moving in a different direction with their drumming. The band has not issued a public response to the news at this time. No comment has been given by a spokesperson for the band as of the end of Friday.
A Brief but Impactful Tenure
He stepped in after former drummer Taylor Hawkins passed away in 20222. The bandās followers were thrilled to see him join the group, thanks to his respected contributions to artists like Nine Inch Nails, Devo, and Guns Nā Roses. Freese indicated he understood the reasons for his exit, but his departure has surprised supporters who grew accustomed to his energetic performances on the drum kit.
āI truly enjoyed the last two years,ā he added in his post. āI wish them all the best.ā
Freelance Mindset Keeps Freelance Grounded
Despite the abrupt ending, Freese maintained a level-headed perspective, pointing out that heās always worked as a freelance musician and often shifted between bands.
āBut as most of you know, Iāve always worked freelance and bounced between bands,ā he wrote. āSo Iām fine.ā
Meanwhile, Back at Foo HQā¦
Foo Fighters made public that they will take the stage at this yearās Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, marking their first official performance since Grohl became the subject of media attention by revealing that he fathered a child with someone other than his wife.
The changing members and ongoing personal issues hint at major changes for the group, which may continue to evolve out of the public eye.
