Did Kieran Culkin Just Use His Oscar Win to Expand His Family?

During the 2025 Oscars, Kieran Culkin earned Best Supporting Actor for A Real Pain, which set off his acceptance speech with an unexpected announcement about his pregnancy with his third child. Robert Downey Jr. presented the trophy to Kieran Culkin before he unexpectedly shared with the audience that his wife Jazz Charton was expecting their third child. The actor who plays Roman Roy in Succession used his time at the event to praise Charton with a moving acknowledgment.
“I have to thank my wife, Jazz, for absolutely everything.” He then revisited a promise she made after his 2024 Emmy win: “About a year ago, I was on a stage like this and very stupidly and publicly said that I want a third kid from her, because she said if I won the award, she would give me the kid.”
The Deal That Led to Baby No. 3
The Actor revealed his wish to have additional children while accepting the Best Lead Actor in a Drama Emmy in January 2024. During that moment, he brought forth his thanks to Charton and their kids Wilder Wolf and Kinsey Sioux before mentioning their earlier agreement with a playful tone: “Jazz, I want more. Remember what you told me?” You said maybe if I win!”
To his surprise, she stuck to her word.
“After the show, we’re walking through a parking lot. She’s holding the Emmy, we’re trying to find a car. And she goes, ‘Oh God, I did say that. I guess I owe you a third kid.’”
But Wait, There’s More…
That wasn’t the only deal Kieran Culkin had in the works.
“I turned to her and I said, ‘Really, I want four.’ And she turned to me—I swear to God this happened—she said, ‘I will give you four when you win an Oscar.’” The audience erupted in laughter as Culkin added, “I held my hand out, she shook it, and I have not brought it up once until just now.”
Turning to Charton in the crowd, he playfully called her out:
“You remember that, honey? You do? Then I just have this to say—ye of little faith. No pressure. I love you. And… let’s get cracking on those kids. Whaddaya say?”
Kieran Culkin From Succession to Oscar Gold
The leading position for the award went to Kieran Culkin because of his exceptional work in Jesse Eisenberg’s A Real Pain. A Real Pain transition marked a shift for Seth Rogen, whose former improvisational practice in Succession seemed foreign to the precise direction of Eisenberg.
