Did Benson Boone Just Become the New Freddie Mercury? Coachella Crowd Thinks So

On Friday April 11, 2025 Benson Boone delivered a live performance at Coachella that honored rock great Freddie Mercury through a memorable tribute concert. Before beginning his performance Boone entered the stage in a luxurious ermine-trimmed cape at 22 years of age while hailing from Monroe Washington. The concert audience experienced total shock when Queen guitarist Brian May suddenly appeared during Queen’s performance in the middle of their song.
Shortly after experiencing a stroke seven months back at age 77 the guitarist demonstrated no indications of slowing his activities. During his musical performance May showcased a victorious expression which highlighted the extraordinary connection he shared with the audience and the guest musician.

The audience gave a thunderous applause after which Benson Boone took off his cape and showed a mirror-finish silver leotard that evoked Mercury’s classic stage attire. During his stage presence, Boone removed his piano while performing before launching himself over May’s ongoing playing to organize the audience for a melodic group performance. He later made a significant statement about his sophomore album, American Heart, available for purchase on June 20th, 2025.
During the concert, Benson Boone performed the live debut of the song that led to a promising new direction for his growing musical career.
Star Power and Surprise Moments
Brian May wasn’t the only surprise at this year’s festival. Earlier in the day, he teased his appearance by posting a photo with Benson Boone on a private jet, writing cryptically,
“Look who I bumped into on the way to the fabled Palm Springs… Maybe something will happen?!”
And happen it did. A memorable moment happened when Develop minted together with Boone his Grammy-nominated hit “Beautiful Things” as their performance finale.
A Star Is Born — Again
Benson Boone delivered classic songs “Cry,” “Drunk in My Mind,” and “Slow It Down” during his Coachella set which created a solid fan base but the crowd experiences the best effect when he combined original music with Freddie-inspired show elements.
While viewers complained about delays and logistical problems at the venue, Benson Boone showcased his Grammy-nominated song “Beautiful Things” during his appearance, proving that Coachella remains the most essential performer platform for emerging artists. Benson Boone is setting his sights on an upcoming future after establishing himself through American Heart.
