Water. Earth. Fire. Air. During an earlier timeline, the Avatar universe delivered two almost flawless series to viewers. At the time when humanity required its presence most… the Avatar vanished. This animated series, The Last Airbender, returned with great success on Netflix when a decade had elapsed since its initial run. Aang-iverse faces an explosion of fresh content in the current time.
Avatar: Seven Havens—A New Chapter from the Original Creators
The latest addition? Avatar: Seven Havens is a brand-new animated series from original creators Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko. According to confirmed information, the upcoming version of the series will appear on Nickelodeon and contain two books containing 13 episodes in each.
“When we created the original series, we never imagined we’d still be expanding the world decades later,” DiMartino and Konietzko shared in a statement. “This new incarnation of the Avatarverse is full of fantasy, mystery, and a whole new cast of amazing characters.”
A Darker, More Dangerous Avatar Era
The upcoming series, Seven Havens, will observe darker elements compared to the previous series, which took Asian ancient history in ATLA and the Industrial Era in Legend of Korra. An official press release describes the new series taking place in a world that suffered through an immense destructive event.
In this time of severe danger, the central character learns that she is the successor to Korra as the future, although becoming Avatar brings more harm than good to her. Rain brings destruction to humanity because people view her as their end rather than their keeper. The character faces dual threats from both human beings and spirit entities as she partners with her twin to reveal their hidden past. The protagonists unite forces to protect the Seven Havens while all remaining parts of humanity face imminent collapse.
Why Now? The Return of the Avatar Universe
Seven Havens receives its public debut as ATLA reaches its twentieth celebration of the initial broadcast. The authorities have not declared any specific release day. Seven Havens will appear after multiple Avatar projects have already hit the market. This January, viewers can expect to see an Aang-centered animated feature movie. The live-action adaptation of ATLA from Netflix can already be watched by audiences. The massive content wave makes one question if the creators are hiding something.
