It seems that ASAP Rocky’s attorney, Joe Tacopina, is selective about his clients. The high-profile lawyer, who is currently representing the “Sundress” rapper, was reportedly approached to take on Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs’ legal battle but refused. Tacopina made this revelation during his appearance on The Breakfast Club on Monday, February 24. He confirmed that he was asked to look into the Bad Boy Records mogul’s case, which involves allegations of sex trafficking and racketeering, but ultimately declined.
Citing Ties to Roc Nation
He further elaborated that this decision was influenced by the fact that he has a good working relationship with Roc Nation and its management.
“I represent Roc Nation and have close relationships with multiple people there,” he stated. “Jay [Z] and [Roc Nation president] Desiree Perez, who’s the most amazing, like, bomb of a boss. Jay is amazing. You know, Jay Brown, all those people are just, like, they really are special, special people.”
He went on to say that the notion he boasts of close relations with the company implies that he cannot represent Sean Diddy Diddy.
Sean Diddy and Jay-Z: A Fractured Relationship?
During the interview, Tacopina has asserted that Sean Diddy Diddy and Jay-Z are not on speaking terms as they were before. While on the show, Charlamagne Tha God requested clarification, to which the lawyer did not shy away.
“Everyone wants a picture with P. Diddy, at one time or another when they went to a party,” Tacopina said. “But when things got real, years and years ago…”
H stopped abruptly as if there was more to the dispute between two legends in the music industry. Specifically, in an interview with Complex, Tacopina stated that Roc Nation is ‘family’ to him and affirmed that his allegiance would remain with Jay-Z and not Sean Daddy.
A History of High-Profile Clients
To the unknown, Joe Tacopina has a strong record in the law field, as his resume shows. He managed to defend ASAP Rocky in a felony shooting case, as stated by Billboard, wherein the rapper was found not guilty. Thus, disapproving Sean Diddy’s case, Tacopina has defined his position in professional conflict and left more questions about the real nature of relations between Jay-Z and Diddy.
