28 Years Later Sequel Secures Release Date for 2026

The long-awaited version of the film called 28 Years Later is coming. Sony Pictures has announced that 28 Years Later: The next installment of the zombie film will be The Bone Temple, which is due to be released in theaters on 16 January 2026.
Following the publication of the current 2025 forecast
The news has been made public when it is anticipated that 28 Years Later will be launched on June 20, 2025. There is anticipation for the 2025 part after the first trailer was released earlier this month, which raised the suspense of returning to the franchise.
The Bone Temple will be directed by Nia DaCosta, with franchise writers Danny Boyle and Alex Garland returning to work on the story. The plot of the sequel is still shrouded in mystery, yet it is known that the film would proceed with the revelation of the investigative world depicted in the first 28 Days Later.
The Returning Cast and Setting
Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Erin Kellyman, and Edvin Ryding are cast for 28 Years Later. This casting happens after the original rage virus outbreak. The story is all about those who will be surviving on a fortified island, which is isolated and surrounded by the infected mainland. Their safe zone was in danger when one member entered the mainland, where he distinguished the horrific situation, which blurred the line between the infected and the human survivors.
Building on a Legacy
The film and its two sequels have been noted as defining the current post-2000 wave of zombie films. Consequently, with a grim setting, a shocker narrative, and two more films to come, the fans are to face an even darker chapter in the series. They’re following up 2009’s Zombieland with this two-part return to the rage virus universe in 2025 and opening in early 2026.
